15 December 2014

Hello everyone,

Sister Rachel Jensen is scheduled to arrive home on Wednesday December 17, 2014. She should arrive in Salt Lake City after traveling from Iloilo, to Manila, to Tokyo, to Los Angeles, then to Salt Lake City. It is about 24 hours of travel and layovers not counting the 15 hour time difference so I am sure that she will be exhausted when she arrives. Scheduled arrival is about 4:04 pm on Delta flight DL 2204.

Rachel will speak at the Cannon First Ward on Sunday, 21 December. Sacrament meeting begins at 9:00 am. The meeting house address is 934 West Fremont Avenue (about 1100 south) in Salt Lake City, UT.

We pray for Rachel to have safe and timely travel and thank you all for your love and support.

Kamusta Pamilya,

As you have mentioned there has been another bagio in the Philippines and so we had to come home earlier for a couple of nights and some of the missionaries got evacuated from their areas closer to the city. They didn’t want to have a repeat of what happened last year during Yolanda with missionaries going missing due to no cell phone signal. My area of the island didn’t get hit, There was just some rain and strong winds but nothing compared to what I experienced last year in Kalibo. I’m not sure if any of the Panay Island got effected. Yesterday, as directed and advised, we only went to church for sacrament meeting then we all returned to our respective homes.
The work continues and we continue to find and teach as well as rescue. We found a new family and the father seems really interested. He reads!!! and whenever we see him he just has a huge smile on his face. His wife is a little bit against the whole thing but with time and help from her husband, I think she will be more open to the message. The Tongua family continues to be busy but we have seen a bit of improvement with Liezl. She told us that after clearing up some confusion she had, she might be baptized. So we will not give up on her. We also have another investigator. She is actually from a part-member family who is less active. She just had a baby and I think that is why she started listening to us. We shared the plan of salvation with her and she loved it.
I am finishing up the four standard works this coming week which is exciting and I have noticed how much of a treasure the scriptures are. I rejoice in reading and applying the messages from the scriptures.
It has been made very clear to me that the call is to “hasten the work” and I strive everyday to sanctify myself and be worthy to carry on the call. I know that we must all go on in so great a cause. We must move forward and on to victory. That is the call, that is what we have to do. We must become better, do better, and be better so that the work can hasten. I have found the importance of putting off the natural man and truly living the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I love you all and pray for you always,
Sister Jensen

FAMILY,

I continue to just be so grateful to be a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I had a good birthday which consisted of a normal day as a missionary but I did teach my companion how to make a s’more and we ate some of those. On Thanksgiving I made some stuffing.. it was from a box that Grandma sent me in a package.. so i celebrated a little thanksgiving here in the Philippines.
The area continues to be a challenge. We haven’t been able to teach the Tongua family once this past week… they always punt us and won’t let us in their homes. We went to go visit Liezl and she told us she didn’t enjoy her experience at church and was unable to feel the spirit while she was at church. It was really sad. So we are back to square one with no investigators and we spend our time finding and getting rejected but it is all good. We continue to stretch ourselves and stay focused on the work.
Time continues to go by fast and I love every moment that I have as a missionary. I love my studies, training my companion, and going out to find people to save.
Love you all,
Sister Jensen

Kamusta Pamilya,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

This past week was was great and finally after many weeks of not having any investigators come to church we had some. Nanay Tongua was able to come to church as well as Liezl. We were also blessed to have a less-active family come to church too. There were many blessings yesterday. Liezl continues to really progress and she told us that she is seriously thinking about switching religions. Our last lesson with her was helping her know how to recognize the promptings of the Holy Ghost and the importance to act on the impressions that she is given. She seemed to really enjoy her first time at church and she was well fellowshipped. Hopefully next week her mom will also attend church with her.
I have come to a greater understanding of how great, simple and perfect the gospel of Jesus Christ is. As I serve my Heavenly Father I have been able to feel His love around me and recognize the blessings that He constantly and abundantly gives me. I know that one can only obtain true happiness through fully surrendering themselves to God and living according to the commandments and gospel. This gospel is true and it has become so much a part of my life that I would never want my life to be without this great gospel. I am grateful for every challenge, disappointment, heartache, trial, and temptation that I experienced because it gave me the opportunity to apply the teachings of Jesus in my life, to change, and to become more like Him. I am grateful for my Savior, He is my Redeemer and I will continue to rejoice in Him, preach of Him, and strive to become more like Him.
I love and miss you all and it sounds like you are all staying busy with school and work but still enjoying what life has to offer.
Thank you for all the birthday wishes!!
Love you all!!
